After three weeks, my GTO is back in my hands this morning—with a new LS2 motor. Thanks to the CarMax warranty, the $13,000 cost to replace the engine cost me $300 out of pocket. I'm a big fan of CarMax now. Big fan.
The biggest problem: having to baby her for another 1,000 miles to break the engine in.

Mr. DeMuro wrote a fantastic piece about utilizing the CarMax warranty. Good to see you're getting your moneys worth.

A whole 300$ for an LS2 including installation. I'm guessing without the warranty, an out-of-pocket engine replacement at a dealership using catalog prices would be in the 5 digit range easy.

It cost $13,000. Basically, a new LS2 motor and radiator costs about $9,000. The rest is labor.

All the GM parts catalog and none of the shopping around, I guess no harm done it wasn't his money.

Well, shit. I guess I've only replaced one engine ever and it was used, just seems like a lot of money.

I'd probably be concerned about the price, too. If I was paying for it.
Hahahahahahahaha!

CarMax took it.

Sorry, meant to ask why the engine needed to be replaced.

The engine was cracked. Coolant was mixing with engine oil. This drained the coolant, which cracked the radiator as well., when it massively overheated. It was all just terribly wrong.
